Introduction
There are 6 species in the genus Parasarpa, variously distributed across the Oriental region. They are popularly known as Commodores, although that name is also used for allied genera including Auzakia and Sumalia.
Parasarpa dudu is found in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, China, Taiwan, peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra.
Habitats
This very handsome species is found in forested areas at elevations between about 500-2000m.
Lifecycle
The larval foodplant is Lonicera ( Caprifoliaceae ).
Adult behaviour
The flight is swift and skittish with rapid wing beats alternating with spurts of smooth gliding. Males are strongly territorial and patrol regular beats back and forth along trails, settling periodically on the ground to imbibe mineralised moisture.
