Introduction
There are 6 species in the genus Neopithecops, found variously in India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Papua and northern Australia. These pretty butterflies are tiny but very distinctive, with round, white wings, long antennae and large black eyes.
Neopithecops zalmora is a very widespread and common species, found in India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi, Java and Bali.
Habitats
This species is found in rainforest and humid deciduous forest at elevations between sea level and about 800m.
Lifecycle
The larvae feed on Glycosmis ( Rutaceae ).
Adult behaviour
Males are commonly found imbibing mineralised moisture from damp soil. They always hold their wings erect when feeding or at rest.
