Introduction
The genus Falcuna comprises of 15 species, and in common with other Lipteninae is wholly African in distribution.
Falcuna leonensis is a west African species, found from Senegal to Ghana.
Habitats
This butterfly inhabits rainforests, at altitude between about 100-500m.
Lifecycle
The larvae feed on algae growing on the bark of trees.
Adult behaviour
Both sexes can be seen flying around tree trunks, normally quite low down, and are faster on the wing than most other Liptenids. In the late afternoon they go to roost on tendrils or on thin dry twigs, usually just a few centimetres above ground level.
