Baeotis macularia, Otun Quimbaya, Colombia -Peter Bygate
Introduction
There are at least 20 species in the genus Baeotis, found variously from Mexico to Bolivia. They are small butterflies, and mostly quite similar in appearance, with broad creamy bands on a dark brown or sooty ground colour. In sulphurea and macularia however the adults are pale yellow, marked with dark brown spots.
Baeotis macularia is distributed from Mexico to Colombia.
Habitats
This species inhabits cloudforest at elevations between about 1200-2000m.

Adult behaviour
In common with other Baeotis species, the adults habitually bask with their wings held flat, and with the forewings angled slightly forward.
