Helicopis cupido, Ecuador – Tony Hoare
Introduction
The Helicopis Cupids are closely related to Sarota and Anteros but are quite different in appearance and behaviour. The genus comprises of 3 species – cupido, gnidus and endymiaena.
Helicopis cupido is found in Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, Surinam, Guyana, Brazil and Ecuador. There are 9 named subspecies.
Habitats
This species is found in primary rainforest habitats at altitudes between 200-800m. It is most often encountered in marshy habitats e.g. around the margins of lagoons.

Both sexes tend to be found when at rest under the leaves of tall vegetation growing around the edges of lagoons.
