Anteros kupris, Medellin, Colombia – Adrian Hoskins
Introduction
There are 16 species in the genus Anteros, distributed variously from Mexico to Bolivia. The genus is closely allied to Sarota and Helicopis, and like them is characterised by having silvery markings on the underside wings, and very ‘furry’ legs.
Anteros kupris is the largest of the Anteros species. It is distributed from Costa Rica to Bolivia.
Habitats
This species is found in cloudforest at elevations between about 800-1600m.

Adult behaviour
The adults are elusive and usually encountered in the vicinity of streams or waterfalls. Males can sometimes be found settled on the ground imbibing mineralised moisture. Both sexes can be found at rest underneath leaves, holding their wings erect.
