Introduction

In the neotropical region there are a total of 192 representatives of the subfamily Pierinae.The genus Ganyra comprises of 4 species – howarthi and josephina from Central America, menciae from Cuba, and phaloe – which is the commonest and most widely distributed species, being found from Mexico to Bolivia.

Habitats

Ganyra phaloe is found in open degraded forest areas, at elevations between sea level and about 900m.

Adult behaviour

Males are usually encountered in mud-puddling aggregations with other Pieridae, preferring open sunlit areas on river beaches or logging roads. Females are seen less often, usually when visiting flowers, or flying in search of egg-laying sites.
