Synargis calyce, Rio Claro, Colombia – Adrian Hoskins
Introduction
The genus Synargis comprises 25 species. Males of most species are similar to the more fragile looking Nymphidium metalmarks – largely white, with broad brown borders distinctively patterned in orange.This species is found in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Guyana, Surinam, Peru and Brazil.
Habitats
Synargis calyce is found in rainforest and humid deciduous forest, at elevations between sea level and about 600m.

Adult behaviour
Both sexes are normally encountered singly, flying in forest glades or at light gaps where trees have fallen, and sunlight penetrates to ground level.
