Vila emilia, Satipo, Peru – Adrian Hoskins
Introduction
The genus Vila contains 3 known species, azeca, emilia and eueidiformis, all of which are confined to the neotropics. They are characterised by having blackish uppersides marked with white bands, and undersides patterned in orange and white.Vila emilia is found throughout much of the Amazonian region from Panama to Bolivia.
Habitats
This species appears to be confined to lowland and mid-elevation rainforests at altitudes between about 200-1000m.

Adult behaviour
The butterflies are invariably seen singly. Males are sometimes attracted to mineralised moisture on the ground, or on boulders, but are more commonly seen basking on foliage.
