Introduction

There are 14 species in the genus Cethosia, distributed variously from India to Australia.

Cethosia biblis is found from central India and Nepal to Thailand, Malaysia and China. It also occurs on the islands of the Philippines, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Sulawesi, Bali, Ambon and Serang.

Habitats

This is a mid-elevation species found primarily in sub-tropical hill-forest.

Lifecycle

The larval foodplant is Passiflora.

Adult behaviour

Both sexes tend to be most active in the mornings, flying from flower to flower in search of nectar. They normally feed and bask with wings held half open, but will bask fully outspread in warm overcast conditions.
