Introduction
The subfamily Dismorphiinae, to which the Wood Whites of Europe belong, has its headquarters in South America, where 51 different species are found. The neotropical genera include Dismorphia, Enantia, Lieinix, Patia, Moschoneura and Pseudopieris.
The 30 Dismorphia species are characterised by having long narrow almost elliptical fore-wings, and disproportionately large egg-shaped hindwings, hence the popular name ‘egg-whites’. In many Dismorphia species including crisia, the apex of the forewing in females is falcate or lobed.
Dismorphia crisia is found in Colombia and Ecuador. There are 13 named subspecies. The ranges of many overlap and produce intermediate forms, so the vaildity of these subspecies is questionable.
