Introduction
The tribe Melitaeini is of worldwide distribution. It includes the Crescents and Checkerspots of North America, and also many familiar European species such as the Marsh, Spotted and Heath Fritillaries.
Janatella are closely related to Castalia, Anthanassa and Eresia, in fact that these genera can only be distinguished by microscopic examination of the male genitalia.
There are 3 Janatella species – hera from Guyana, fellula from Colombia, and leucodesma which is the most widespread species being found from Nicaragua to Colombia and Venezuela.
Janatella fellula is endemic to Colombia.
