Introduction

The genus Sarangesa comprises of 26 species, of which 3 are found in the Oriental region and the remaining 23 in mainland Africa.

Sarangesa brigida is found from Guinea to Uganda, Zambia, western Kenya and Tanzania.

Habitats

This species is found in degraded forest and along logging roads through primary forest at altitudes up to about 1000m.

Lifecycle

The larval foodplants are not recorded, but are probably in the family Acanthaceae.

Adult behaviour

Males are usually seen singly, often sharing their habitat with Sarangesa bouvieri. Both species commonly bask with wings fully outspread on bushes or low vegetation, and will fly in overcast conditions as well as in full sunshine.
