Introduction

This unusual butterfly is the only member of the genus Amphiselenis. Its closest relatives are the dazzling metallic blue Lasaia species. The angular wing shape of chama makes it almost impossible to confuse with any other butterfly.

Amphiselenis chama is known only from Colombia and Venezuela.

Habitats

This species is found in cloudforest habitats at elevations between about 1500-2000m.

Adult behaviour

Males are usually encountered singly, imbibing moisture from the edges of puddles. They are active in cloudy conditions as well as in sunlight.
