Introduction
In the neotropical region there are 2365 described species of Hesperiidae. The family is divided into 5 subfamilies – the Pyrrhopyginae or Swifts – 163 species; the Heteropterinae – 139 species; the Megathyminae or Trap-door Skippers – 32 species; the Pyrginae or Spreadwings – 991 species; and the Hesperiinae of which there are at least 1040 known species.
The Hesperiinae are known as Grass Skippers, because their larvae feed on grasses, bamboos and other monocotyledons.
The genus Zariaspes comprises of 2 species – mythecus from Mexico, and mys which is distributed from Costa Rica to Peru.
