Introduction
There are 4 species in of the genus Baeotus, all of which are confined to the neotropics.
Baeotus beotus is said to occur from Costa Rica to the southern Amazon. Some taxonomists argue that it is confined to Colombia, and that similar specimens from other parts of the neotropics are forms of aeilus ( = amazonicus ).
Habitats
Lowland wet tropical forests at altitudes below about 800m.
Lifecycle
Unknown. The genus appears to be very closely related to Historis, which suggests that Moraceae and Urticaceae are probable foodplants.
Adult behaviour
Males are usually seen singly, resting on tree trunks, or feeding at fallen fruit. They also aggregate with other Nymphalidae to imbibe dissolved minerals at damp sand on riverbanks.
