Adelotypa huebneri, Satipo, Peru – Dave Griffiths
Introduction
The genus Adelotypa includes 29 currently recognised species, but is in the process of revision. The illustrated species huebneri is placed in Livendula by some authorities.
Adelotypa ( sensu lato ) species significantly in colour and pattern. Some such as eudocia, argiella and densemaculata are predominantly brown. Others including amasis and annulifera are banded with white on a brown ground colour. Another group including glauca and curulis are predominantly blue. One feature common to almost all species is the presence of well developed ovoid maculae in the basal area of the wings. There are several which are similar in colour and pattern to huebneri, including violacea, pauxilla, aristus and asemna, so correct species determination requires careful study of the markings.
Adelotypa huebneri is found in Brazil and Peru.
