Helicopis cupido, EcuadorĀ – Tony Hoare
Introduction
TheĀ HelicopisĀ Cupids are closely related toĀ SarotaĀ andĀ AnterosĀ but are quite different in appearance and behaviour. The genus comprises of 3 species –Ā cupido,Ā gnidusĀ andĀ endymiaena.
Helicopis cupidoĀ is found in Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad, Surinam, Guyana, Brazil and Ecuador. There are 9 named subspecies.
Habitats
This species is found in primary rainforest habitats at altitudes between 200-800m. It is most often encountered in marshy habitats e.g. around the margins of lagoons.

Both sexes tend to be found when at rest under the leaves of tall vegetation growing around the edges of lagoons.
